Welcome to Wilmslow Walks
This site includes a collection of walks in North Cheshire around Wilmslow, Handforth, Styal, Alderley Edge, Mobberley, Prestbury, Chelford, Poynton, Bollington, Rainow, Macclesfield and Congleton.
The walks are divided into short walks up to 4.5 miles and longer walks over 4.5 miles.
Each walk page has a slide show of photographs taken along or near the route and a video flyover of each walk. You can stop the video flyover at any point by clicking on the pause button.
GPX and KLM files are provided to download as well as a map of the route. You can print out the map or use it on your phone or tablet as a guide. There are instructions for using GPX and KLM files on the home menu and the download button for these files is at the bottom of each walk page. Your satellite receiver, tablet or phone may not always operate precisely, so always take a printed map with you. Have a good look at the route on the map and view the video flyover before you start your walk.
These routes have been carefully mapped and most of them use public footpaths, tracks and quiet roads. Take particular care when walking along country roads, especially around sharp bends, as drivers may not easily see you. You can read more about keeping safe when walking here.
Use your common sense when following these walks. Check the local weather conditions, consider your own fitness and respect the country code. Some of these walks can be very muddy in parts during the winter and after rainfall and most of the walks involve climbing stiles. Many of these walks are through farmland and you may encounter cows, sheep and horses. Here's some advice about crossing fields with livestock.
Since starting this website there is pressure to build on greenbelt land in many parts of the area. It's sad to think, that some of the photographs on this site, will become historical records of what was once open land. This has already happened at Sunbank Lane.
I hope you enjoy these walks as much I have. Let me know if you do.
